The hours around your run matter too. The Nike Mind 001, created by Nike's Mind Science department, is a slip-on recovery mule rather than a running shoe. Its 22 oversized foam nodes move against the sole of your foot as your weight shifts, creating pressure variation that stimulates the foot's sensory nerves.

When to wear it

Warm-ups, cool-downs, the locker room, travel and general downtime. A soft foam midsole handles standing and slow walking, while a stretchy fabric footbed sits over the node array. It is not made for running, training or long walks.

Most performance running shoes are built on a single unisex last: the shoe is identical, only the size label changes. A US women's 8.5 is a US men's 7.
