Few super shoes can match this one on paper. In lab testing the Adios Pro 4 posted 80.4% energy return, the highest figure ever recorded for a running shoe, and at around 200 g it undercuts nearly every rival.

How it races

Use it from 5K to the marathon, and for fast tempo days. The ride is plush and highly responsive, best suited to midfoot and forefoot strikers since the heel is narrow.

• Updated Lightstrike Pro (TPEE): softer and more responsive than the Pro 3's midsole.
• Energy Rods 2.0: five carbon-infused rods mirror the metatarsals and flex with your foot rather than acting as one stiff plate.
• LIGHTTRAXION outsole: a Continental rubber patch under the forefoot for grip at push-off.
• LIGHTLOCK upper: lateral hold through corners with no added weight.
• Drop: 6 mm (adidas stated).
